Semay Wu (UK) is a cellist, composer and sound artist who explores the space between gesture, image and musical language. She initiated the New Emergences lecture and discussion series in March 2016. Hailing from Liverpool/Manchester – having studied at the RNCM, and worked as a freelance musician, improviser and composer for many years – Semay studied for the Master of Music degree in 2014, at the Institute of Sonology in The Hague and at STEIM in Amsterdam. Semay is now based in sunny Stenhousemuir, Scotland. Here, she continues her explorative work including the myriad aspects of choreography, set design, video, and instrument building.
